The UK Asbestos Training Association (UKATA) is proud to announce their partnership with Highways UK Exhibition 2023, taking place 18 – 19 October 2023 at the NEC Birmingham. The event will showcase the latest developments and innovations in the highways industry, with a focus on sustainability, technology, and safety.

Highways UK, launched in 2015 at the start of the Government’s first five-year road investment strategy (RIS), brings together the people responsible for planning, developing, managing, maintaining, and future-proofing the nation’s roads networks. The high-level multi-stream conference covers the critical topics facing the sector, including decarbonisation, road investment, road safety, innovation in local roads, digitalisation and attracting talent.

The speaker line-up features an impressive level of senior leaders from public and private sector organisations throughout the entire highways sector supply chain. Alongside the conference, the event features a major services and suppliers-led exhibition which has become the place where investors and big players seek new innovations, accelerators, and partners.

The event promotes innovation and new technology throughout the supply chain and has cemented itself as the highlight of the highways industry’s annual calendar. Working alongside an influential advisory board which includes senior-level executives from National Highways, Department for Transport, LCRIG and many more, Highways UK covers the key topics, issues and concerns that matter to the entire sector.

Highways UK’s success is built upon bringing together influencers and decision makers to identify how to deliver the roads infrastructure the country needs whilst achieving positive outcomes for the economy, society, and the environment.

Highways UK presents unique annual opportunities across a number of channels, all designed to deliver business development and leadership opportunities. This year’s edition will host over 375 exhibitors from across the globe, featuring new ways of thinking and novel partnerships to generate solutions.

As part of their partnership, UKATA Director Chris Bishop will address delegates at the conference on the risks associated to working with asbestos. As a Chartered Chemist, Chartered Quality Practitioner and Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health, Chris Bishop has worked with UKATA since its inception 15 years ago and represents the association at HSE led Asbestos Network meetings. Chris has been working within the asbestos industry for over 20 years.

UKATA Chief Operating Officer, Craig Evans said:

"We are excited to partner with Highways UK and bring attention to the importance of safe working practices within the highways industry and beyond. Despite being banned in 1999, asbestos exposure remains a serious issue, and it is vital that those working in the industry are educated and aware of the risks associated with asbestos-containing materials. We are pleased to have Chris Bishop represent UKATA and share his expertise on this important issue."

Highways UK say:

"We are delighted to have UKATA on board as a partner for the event that has rapidly established itself as the sector’s must-attend exhibition and the highlight of the highways industry’s annual calendar.

We invite you to join us 18-19 October 2023 to exchange ideas, build your brand, form friendships and partnerships, grow your professional network, explore the future, and uncover new opportunities alongside us."
