UKATA Supports Mesothelioma UK Patient & Carer Day 2026

UKATA was pleased to support Mesothelioma UK’s 21st annual Patient & Carer Day, held on Thursday 1 October 2026 at the King Power Stadium in Leicester.

The annual event brings together people living with mesothelioma, their families and carers, healthcare professionals and supporters of the mesothelioma community. The day provides an opportunity to share experiences and hear about developments in research and care.

This year’s event provided a welcoming environment for conversations, learning and connection, with a programme focused on the experiences of those affected by mesothelioma and the ongoing work to improve support and care.

The programme featured a range of speakers covering lived experience, the latest developments in mesothelioma research and clinical trials, specialist nursing and palliative care, as well as policy, campaigning and wellbeing. Speakers included Kate Williams, who shared her experience of living with peritoneal mesothelioma; Maurice Dungey and Professor Dean Fennell, who discussed developments in mesothelioma research and clinical trials, and Richard Blunt, who explored policy and campaigning around asbestos.

The programme also included contributions from cancer advocates Debra Willoughby and Jackie Laird, and Dr Hannah Moody, the newly appointed Chief Executive of Mesothelioma UK, whose research background includes investigating the repurposing of existing drugs to treat mesothelioma. Their contributions provided insight into advances in treatment and patient care, alongside the continuing challenges faced by people living with mesothelioma and their families.

For UKATA, the event was also an opportunity to meet with members of the mesothelioma community and reflect on the continuing importance of raising awareness of asbestos-related disease.

Quality Assurance Manager Liam Pembleton, who represented UKATA at the event, said:

“Patient & Carer Day is always a particularly meaningful event to be part of. Hearing directly from people living with mesothelioma, as well as their families and carers, is a powerful reminder of the real impact of asbestos-related disease. It was a privilege to meet so many people and to hear about their experiences, while also seeing the continued work being done to improve support, care and treatment. UKATA is proud to continue supporting Mesothelioma UK and the important work they do for the mesothelioma community.”
