UKATA set to attend South Wales Safety Group Alliance Annual Conference, 18 April

The UK Asbestos Training Association (UKATA) is attending The South Wales Safety Groups Alliance 3rd Annual Conference and Exhibition on Wednesday 18 April. Over 300 delegates will gather at Cardiff City Stadium this year, they will also have the opportunity to hear from UKATA Director and globally recognised asbestos expert, Professor Roger Willey.

Aiming to improve the health, safety and wellbeing of employees in South Wales, The South Wales Safety Groups Alliance comprises of the Wales Branch IIRSM; the South Wales Branch IOSH; South Wales Construction Safety Group; Cardiff and South East Wales Occupational Health and Safety Group and Swansea and West Wales Occupational Safety Group. The inaugural Conference and Exhibition was held in Cardiff in 2016 and success led to a second event in Swansea in 2017. UKATA will be making its debut at the event when it returns to Cardiff this year.

“UKATA is delighted to be attending the Safety Groups Alliance Conference,” said UKATA Marketing and Events Officer, Victoria Castelluccio. “In addition to Professor Willey speaking from 12.05-12.45, UKATA’s General Manager Craig Evans and myself will also be there, to promote UKATA Members, support Roger and answer any questions delegates may have concerning asbestos training post Roger’s address.”

Professor Willey is one of the world’s foremost experts on asbestos and hazardous materials; having spoken across the globe and served as an expert witness in asbestos related court cases. This has included cases in Scotland; the High Courts of Ireland and Australia, as well as acting as Court Appointed Expert in the High Court in London. The Professor has served as Branch Chairman of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), as Advisor to the Secretary of State for Scotland on Sustainable Development, and remains a Director of UKATA and sits on the Executive Committee.

“Roger has over 35 years of experience in the field, with many delegates attending events just to hear him speak,” added Victoria. “Roger will cover current issues, the dangers of exposure and as always, will have his own unique style of delivering best practice messages for delegates to take away with them,” she concluded.

UKATA is the leading authority for asbestos training provision in the United Kingdom. Tasked by the HSE in 2008 to manage the licensed asbestos training providers, UKATA has gone from strength to strength and now has over 180 member organisations from all corners of the UK.
