UKATA signs up as corporate donor for national charity, Mesothelioma UK in 2017
The UK Asbestos Training Association (UKATA) has signed up as a new corporate donor for Mesothelioma UK, a charity dedicated to supporting people with asbestos-related cancer in Britain. As a Bronze Donor, UKATA will support Mesothelioma UK to deliver a range of services and resources.
UKATA has also named Mesothelioma UK as one of its charities for the year, meaning that alongside its members, the organisation will be holding a range of fundraising activities which will further support the charity.
Committed to providing specialist information, support and education, Mesothelioma UK is improving care and treatment for all UK mesothelioma patients and their carers. Integrating with NHS front line services, means the charity helps to ensure that specialist mesothelioma nursing is available at the point of need.
“There are a number of diseases and cancers associated with asbestos exposure and UKATA is proud to be working with Mesothelioma UK and ensuring people are aware of the dangers of asbestos related cancers like mesothelioma,” said UKATA General Manager Craig Evans. “UKATA is focused on training so those who work with asbestos do not develop mesothelioma in the future and this partnership will help us highlight the risks of not taking exposure to asbestos seriously.”
Liz Darlison, Consultant Nurse and Mesothelioma UK Director of Services said: “Mesothelioma UK is delighted to welcome UKATA as our latest corporate donor. UKATA is an organisation that understands the devastating impact asbestos exposure can have. We’re grateful for its support and the work it does to prevent exposure through awareness training. We’re looking forward to working with UKATA to continue our plans to fund clinical nurse specialists across the country and achieve equitable treatment for all mesothelioma patients.”
UKATA is a national organisation and lends its support to a range of charities and groups throughout the country. UKATA continue to support the Derbyshire Asbestos Support Team (DAST) while members of the Head Office team were involved in a range of fundraising activities from skydiving to sponsored car washes in 2016 and working with Mesothelioma UK will extend UKATA’s charitable work onto the national stage.
“UKATA recognise the importance of supporting local charities and a highly successful 2016 means the time is now right to commit to lending our support on a national level to Mesothelioma UK,” added Craig. “Charities rely on donations, fundraising and sponsorship and UKATA is looking forward to playing our part in helping the charity provide its essential services across the UK.
“This will be a mutually beneficial partnership in every sense of the word and we can’t wait to get started. We were delighted to have raised over £10,000 for our previous charity partner.”
A highly successful 2016 for UKATA saw the Markham Vale office spearheaded a series of successful national initiatives, including the Train Safe, Work Safe, Keep Safe campaign, which saw UKATA members offering free asbestos awareness training to small businesses throughout the country.
Such initiatives are running again in 2017, with the added support for Mesothelioma UK.
