Last week, the UK Asbestos Training Association (UKATA) exhibited at The Health & Safety Event in Birmingham, which saw thousands of workplace professionals from the industrial, commercial, and public sectors in attendance.

Staff across all departments of UKATA represented the association at the three-day event, including UKATA Director Chris Bishop who delivered a session on “Asbestos: Duty Holders and Contractors Responsibilities”, which was extremely well attended, and understandably so given Chris’ knowledge and expertise in the field.

As a Chartered Chemist, Chartered Quality Practitioner and Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health, Chris Bishop has worked with UKATA since its inception, and represents the association at the HSE led Asbestos Network meetings.

For over 20 years, Chris has been working within the asbestos industry. Over a decade ago, he started his own asbestos consultancy and training company AT&C (Asbestos Training & Consultancy) Ltd which offers asbestos awareness, non-licensable, licensable, duty to manage and asbestos surveyor training courses along with site support. His company also works with clients in managing asbestos and provides consultancy support for remediation projects, including contaminated land.

Delegates were provided with a highly engaging presentation by Chris Bishop and were captivated by his delivery (Chris manages to make the somewhat grim subject of asbestos… interesting).

Speaking of the event, UKATA Chief Operating Officer, Craig Evans said:

I would like to thank the ever-professional team at UKATA for promoting the association and its members at The Health & Safety Event. It was such a pleasure to see so many UKATA members and industry associates exhibiting this year.

We look forward to continuing our partnership with the event organisers and the next show taking place next year”.

UKATA members exhibiting this year included 3B Training, Act Associates, Nichol Associates, Quinn’s Training Services, R G Wilbrey, OMS, SHE Advises, Stallard Kane along with UKATA industry associates Dräger and Casella.
