Lung Cancer Awareness Month - November 2023

Lung Cancer Awareness Month, takes place throughout November.

The aim of the campaign is to encourage individuals displaying the common symptoms of lung cancer, such as a persistent cough, breathlessness or unexplained weight-loss, to visit their GP. Encouraging people to recognise these symptoms and see their doctor sooner could save lives.

Lung Cancer is the third most common type of cancer in the UK. It is difficult to spot the symptoms early on, so it's important to know what to look out for and how you can reduce your risk.

The symptoms of lung cancer can include:

  • a cough for 3 weeks or more
  • a change in a cough you have had for a long time
  • a chest infection that does not get better, or repeated chest infections
  • feeling breathless and wheezy for no reason
  • coughing up blood
  • chest or shoulder pain that does not get better
  • a hoarse voice for 3 weeks or more.

If you have any of these symptoms, it is important to get them checked by your GP.
