UKATA was pleased to collaborate with the European Safety Federation (ESF) as part of its ongoing webinar series, “The Construction Sector and its (Respiratory) Health and Safety Risks”.
The European Safety Federation represents the interests of the personal protective equipment industry across Europe, working to improve occupational safety and health standards through collaboration, education and advocacy. Through its Working Group on Respiratory Protection, ESF delivered a structured programme of short, focused webinars designed to highlight the often-underestimated respiratory risks present within the construction sector.
The series explored a range of key topics affecting worker health and safety, including silica dust exposure, asbestos, respirator fit testing and other hazardous airborne substances encountered across construction and related industries. Each 30-minute session was designed to deliver practical insight and raise awareness among those responsible for workplace safety.
UKATA Director, Ellie Johns, was invited to speak in the third session of the series, titled “Asbestos”, which took place on Friday 29 May 2026. This session focused on the ongoing risks associated with asbestos exposure, the importance of effective control measures, and the continued need for high-quality training and awareness across the sector.
Ellie Johns brings over a decade of experience in the asbestos training industry. Beginning her career in an asbestos bulk laboratory, she progressed into asbestos training delivery and has since established herself as a highly respected UKATA and BOHS trainer. She delivers a wide range of qualifications, including UKATA asbestos awareness, non-licensed work, asbestos project manager and Duty to Manage:Appointed Person courses, alongside BOHS P402 and P405 training.
Alongside training delivery, Ellie is actively involved in course development, auditing, asbestos management planning, and consultancy work, providing a comprehensive perspective on both the practical and instructional aspects of asbestos risk management.
The collaboration between UKATA and the European Safety Federation formed part of a wider commitment to improving respiratory health and safety awareness across the construction industry, reinforcing the importance of ongoing education and cross-sector cooperation.
