UKATA Director set to address IOSH West of Scotland Event in 2023

Professor Roger Willey, one of the foremost experts on asbestos in the UK and internationally, is set to address delegates at The IOSH West of Scotland Annual General Meeting this spring.

Roger worked closely with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in the development of training packages to introduce new concepts following the introduction of Regulation 4 in the Asbestos regulations 2002 and went on to be a Founding Director of the UK Asbestos Training Association (UKATA). He proceeded to help UKATA become a leading asbestos training organisation in the UK and internationally, issuing some 200, 000 training certificates annually.

Roger has over 40 years’ experience of asbestos research, consultancy and training and has worked on a worldwide basis. In addition, he is a highly regarded Expert Witness acting in over 820 cases in Senior Law Courts to date.

Roger will address delegates at the AGM on 27th April 2023 which is the first live meeting to be held since before Covid 19. His presentation entitled “Risk: perceived, real and effects on Risk Management” which will cover what has happened to the concept of real risk in the last few years, the problem of asbestos, usage, exposure and much more.

The West of Scotland Branch is the oldest and largest of the Scottish Branches. Representing over 1,700 members who generally come from the West of Scotland mainland and the Western Isles. Stretching from the Scottish Borders to as far north as Oban and who work for a large variety of organisations. The West of Scotland Branch collaborates with the other four Scottish branches to run the IOSH Scotland committee. This brings the branches together with the IOSH professional staff, IOSH Council and Board of Trustees, to provide synergy to the work of the branches in promoting IOSH in Scotland and also link in with the Partnership on Health and Safety in Scotland (PHASS) network.
