UKATA Employee Nominated for Award

Gill Lewis nominated for East Midlands Chamber Female Employee of the Year

The UK Asbestos Training Association (UKATA) is delighted to announce that Gill Lewis, Company Secretary has been nominated for the prestigious ‘Female Employee of the Year’ award by the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce.

Launched in October 2015, the awards are part of the annual search for the most successful and enterprising businesswomen in the East Midlands, with ‘Female Employee of the Year’ one of seven awards up for grabs to celebrate the achievements of women in business. The winners will be announced at the Chamber’s Enterprising Women Festival on 4 March 2016.

“It was a pleasure to nominate Gill for such a significant award,” said Craig Evans, General Manager of UKATA. “Gill has worked tirelessly to see UKATA grow to its current standing in the industry and this nomination is a fitting recognition of Gill’s eight years of service and everyone at UKATA wishes her all the best for when the winners are announced.”

“There are some very talented and hard-working businesswomen in the East Midlands who make an important contribution to the local economy,” said Jean Mountain, Chair of The East Midlands Chamber of Commerce Enterprising Women group. “All too often their contribution to the local economy does not get the recognition it deserves.”

Gill holds a key role within UKATA, assisting with strategic planning and at the heart of driving forward the development and marketing aspect of UKATA’s work. In addition to her central position in assisting the Directors and General Manager, Gill has been instrumental in helping UKATA bring together many experts in the field of asbestos under the UKATA banner, all of whom offer their time freely to promote best practice in standards and training in an industry where health and safety comes first.

“I am proud to have been put forward for this award and I am very much looking forward to the finals,” said Gill Lewis. “I see this award as a reflection of the success of UKATA over the past few years. Since the start of my involvement with UKATA in 2008 I had a vision as to how I envisaged the Association growing. In my role as Company Secretary, I work flexibly to support the Directors and General Manager and I am more than delighted to play my part. The awards aim to inspire more women into business and I hope my nomination does just that.”

“Gill has several important responsibilities at UKATA, yet she remains one of our unsung heroes,” added Craig. “She is not one to promote her own achievements so this nomination for ‘Female Employee of the Year’ goes some way towards changing that. She is a role model and without her hard work, UKATA wouldn’t be the organisation it is today.”

UKATA is the leading authority for asbestos training provision in the United Kingdom. Tasked by the HSE in 2008 to manage the licensed asbestos training providers, UKATA has gone from strength to strength and now has more than 180 member organisations from all corners of the UK.
