On Thursday 22 May 2025, UKATA hosted an insightful and educational webinar titled ‘Asbestos and the Diseases it Causes’, led by UK’s Chief Operating Officer, Liz Darlison MBE.
Liz Darlison serves as Consultant Nurse at University Hospitals of Leicester and CEO of Mesothelioma UK, bringing over 40 years of clinical practice to her delivery of the session. Her expertise offered unique insight into how asbestos fibres impact the human body, the development of disease and the real-life experiences of those affected.
The webinar provided an opportunity for health and safety professionals, duty holders, property managers, and anyone who wants to better understand the continuing health risks associated with asbestos to gain valuable biological context and practical tools to help communicate these complex topics more clearly and credibly in their respective fields.

Hosted by Helen Warriner, Marketing Associate at UKATA, the event attracted a large audience with attendees participating from various fields including construction, education, housing and training. It was a very popular event with 122 people registering, making it the second most attended UKATA webinar to date.
Speaking of the success of the webinar, Helen Warriner said
“It was an honour to welcome Liz Darlison to share her expertise with our delegates. Her passion, clinical knowledge and real-world experience are invaluable in helping us raise the standard of asbestos education and awareness. The webinar attracted strong interest from professionals across a broad range of sectors - not just those delivering asbestos awareness training. Its educational depth and relevance highlighted the urgent need for wider understanding of asbestos-related health risks. This event will no doubt have a lasting impact on how asbestos risks are communicated and understood”.
Liz Darlison MBE was very happy to host the webinar and shared her thoughts about the important relationship between UKATA and Mesothelioma UK
“Mesothelioma UK are delighted to be working closely with UKATA. Even though we come from different ends of the dreadful asbestos legacy our country faces, our vision and approach are so well aligned. Thank you to all your members and for all they do. Together we can make a difference”.
The webinar forms part of UKATA’s ongoing commitment to raising awareness around asbestos risks worldwide and providing free, accessible education on critical issues facing the industry and beyond.
