On 28 November 2025, UKATA hosted a webinar titled “Asbestos Monitoring: The Benefits of New Technologies in How to Keep People Safe”, delivered by Technical Product Manager at Casella, Stephen Sandford.

Hosted by UKATA’s Events and Marketing Co-ordinator, Kelly-Anne Smith, the webinar provided attendees with an in-depth understanding of the essential principles and practicalities of asbestos monitoring, highlighting why it remains critical for both workplace and public safety.

Stephen Sandford guided participants through the vital processes involved in asbestos monitoring, including personal and static air sampling, the four-stage clearance process (site checks, visual inspections, air monitoring and final assessment), and the legal obligations of licensed contractors. He also explored the technological innovations now helping organisations to more effectively detect and manage asbestos risk.

Stephen emphasised the human and safety benefits of accurate monitoring, demonstrating how the use of correct equipment, robust sampling techniques and strict adherence to best practice not only prevent exposure but ultimately save lives.
