UKATA has formally joined in partnership with SMAS Worksafe with the aim to upskill SMAS Worksafe members in asbestos and asbestos training.
UKATA is a leading authority on asbestos training, a not for profit association established in 2008 with a set purpose in mind: to be recognised as the asbestos industry’s most eminent training association.
UKATA is committed to both maintaining and improving higher standards of asbestos training through ongoing monitoring of UKATA-approved training providers.
Any person who may potentially come in to contact with asbestos in their day to day work must legally receive the correct level of information, instruction, and training. Asbestos awareness training is intended to help workers avoid carrying out work that will disturb asbestos-containing materials. However, for those workers who are planning work that will intentionally disturb asbestos fibres, then a higher level of asbestos training will be required.
You can find a training provider using our nationwide directory, alternatively, you can complete the enquiry form on the right and a member of our team will contact you shortly.

Update from the COO – December 2025
As the industry continues to evolve, UKATA remains fully committed to strengthening standards, supporting our members and driving forward initiatives that ensure asbestos training remains robust, relevant and accessible. With that in mind, I’m pleased to share a brief update on what the Association has been focused on recently, and what we’re preparing for in the months ahead.
Strategic Direction & Organisational Development
Over the past year, we have been sharpening our strategic priorities to ensure UKATA remains the leading authority for asbestos training. This work has focused on:
- Strengthening our qualification pathways, including ongoing development of competency-based materials and structured learning routes aligned with industry needs.
- Expanding our partnerships across the built-environment and energy sectors to widen asbestos awareness and improve standards nationwide.
- Enhancing member support, with improvements to audit processes, guidance materials, and communication channels.
Our mission remains clear: ensuring that high-quality asbestos training is delivered consistently and that our members have the tools, guidance and confidence to uphold the safest possible standards.
Industry Events & Member Engagement
Engaging directly with members, industry partners and the wider health & safety community continues to be a key part of our work. Over the past year UKATA has proudly attended, exhibited at, or contributed to a number of major events, including:
- Safety, Health & Wellbeing Live
- Contamination Expo Series
- Global Asbestos Forum Conference
- Ongoing involvement other sector-leading gatherings
These events have provided invaluable opportunities to showcase UKATA’s role, promote high-quality asbestos education and collaborate with organisations who share our commitment to public safety. We will continue to maintain a strong presence at key national and international events throughout the coming year.
Supporting Global Asbestos Awareness
Raising the profile of asbestos risk remains at the heart of what we do. UKATA continues to support awareness campaigns, collaborative research and cross-industry initiatives aimed at improving public understanding and reducing exposure risks across all environments.
Our work with partner organisations, both in the UK and internationally, has helped amplify the message about the importance of competent training and responsible management. We will continue to champion these efforts wherever possible.
Digital Transformation & New Website Development
One of the major projects currently underway is the development of a new UKATA website.
This upgrade will:
- Improve navigation and user experience
- Provide clearer pathways for training queries and membership information
- Offer enhanced digital tools for members
- Modernise how we present our standards, guidance and industry updates
This project represents a significant step forward in how the Association communicates and engages with stakeholders and we look forward to sharing more as it progresses.
Looking Ahead
UKATA remains focused on continuous improvement, both within the organisation and across the wider asbestos training landscape. With new partnerships forming, digital improvements in progress and ongoing engagement across the industry, we are confident that the coming year will strengthen UKATA’s impact even further.
Thank you to all our members, partners and supporters for your continued commitment to high standards and safe working practices. We encourage you to keep an eye on the website and our communication channels for further updates and opportunities to get involved.
Best wishes,
Craig Evans
