New Guidance Issued to Improve Safety and Culture in Asbestos Industry

The Female Analyst Group has today released a new suite of guidance documents aimed at improving safety, decontamination practices, and workplace behaviours within the asbestos analytical industry. This long-anticipated release follows several years of development, consultation, and review across the sector.

The combined document, now available to view below, provides practical guidance in four key areas:

  • Risk Assessment for 4-Stage Clearance Procedures
  • Decontamination Requirements for Analysts
  • Workplace Behaviours and Professional Conduct
  • The Respect Charter

The new guidance has been acknowledged and accepted by both the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), and will soon be made available individually on the HSE’s CONIAC website. Other organisations such as NORAC, ATaC, and industry stakeholders are also encouraged to share and promote this important update.

A spokesperson from the Female Analyst Group commented:

“It has taken some time but we’re proud to share the documents we’ve been working on for the past few years. We believe this guidance is both much needed and highly worthwhile.”

The Respect Charter and the accompanying documents aim not only to enhance physical safety but also to create a respectful and inclusive working environment, particularly addressing issues such as harassment and professional conduct in high-risk settings.

Organisations are encouraged to review the document and implement the recommendations as part of their operational procedures. Feedback or comments can be submitted via the confidential contact details provided within the document.
